Spacebar Speed Test – How Fast Is Your Space Key?

A precision timed spacebar test with presses per second, rank and history.

Frequently asked questions

How is spacebar speed measured?

We divide the number of valid key presses by the exact elapsed time from your first press, measured with performance.now() at sub-millisecond resolution. That gives presses per second (PPS), the same style of figure as CPS for mouse clicks.

What is a fast presses per second score?

Around 5 PPS is average, 7 PPS is fast, and 9 PPS or more is elite. Sprint modes such as 5 seconds usually produce a higher PPS than 60 second runs because fatigue has not set in.

How can I increase my spacebar speed?

Use both thumbs alternately instead of one, rest your wrists on the desk so only your thumbs move, and keep your presses shallow — you only need to travel far enough to trigger the switch. Short 10 second bursts with rest in between build speed faster than long sessions.

Is spacebar clicking bad for my keyboard?

A typical mechanical switch is rated for 50 to 100 million presses, so a few speed tests will not hurt it. Membrane keyboards wear faster, and hammering the key at full force stresses the stabilizers, so press lightly rather than slamming.

What's the world record for spacebar clicks?

There is no official governing body, but the commonly cited community records sit around 150+ presses in 10 seconds (about 15 per second) using alternating thumbs. Scores far beyond that usually involve macros or key repeat exploits, which this counter filters out.

About this spacebar speed test

The spacebar speed test focuses on the rate rather than the raw count: your result is reported in presses per second so you can compare a 5 second sprint against a 60 second endurance run. It is the same engine as our spacebar clicker with a speed-first result panel, a pace breakdown and a chart of your last runs.
