How clicktest.world measures speed
clicktest.world is a set of browser based input speed tests. This page explains exactly how each number is produced so you can judge whether a score is trustworthy.
High resolution timing, no server round trip
Every test is timed in your browser with performance.now(), which has sub-millisecond resolution. The clock starts on your first real input rather than when the page loads, so slow connections, ads or rendering hiccups cannot change your score. Nothing is sent to a server mid-test, so latency plays no part in the result.
Key repeat and phantom input are filtered
Holding the spacebar makes the operating system fire a stream of repeated key events. Many clone sites count those, which is why their leaderboards look impossible. We drop every event flagged as a repeat and only count genuine new presses. Mouse clicks are counted on pointer down so fast techniques such as jitter and butterfly clicking are not swallowed by double-click handling.
Rates, not just totals
A 60 second run and a 5 second sprint are not comparable as raw counts, so every test reports a rate: presses per second, clicks per second, words per minute, milliseconds or scrolls per second. Ranks are graded against the rate, which is why the same rank thresholds apply to every duration.
Where the rank thresholds come from
Our bands follow the conventions the wider community already uses: under 5 CPS average, 5 to 7 good, 7 to 9 pro, 10 or more insane for clicking; roughly 40 WPM average and 80 WPM professional for typing; and about 250 to 300 ms for average visual reaction time. They are descriptive guides for self-comparison, not clinical measurements.
Your scores stay on your device
Personal bests, run history and the daily board live in your browser localStorage. There is no account, no tracking of individual results and no upload. Clearing site data wipes your history, and a shared challenge link only carries the single score encoded in the URL.
How the site is funded
These tests are free and always will be. The site is paid for by advertising served through Google AdSense, which may use cookies to select and measure ads. Ads are kept out of the test area itself so they can never steal a click or a keypress, and you can opt out of personalised advertising at any time — see the privacy policy for the exact steps.
